White City, Kansas. Phil & Isy on the farm. Interestingly, it was the first time for both families to meet the spouse and 2 children, who married and had kids before coming back “state side”. Clyde & Mary spent some time at Cady farm, where a tragic accident on a tractor on a muddy hillside claimed my Mary’s father’s life (Elias Cady). Clyde was walking behind birdwatching. He witnessed the tractor rolling over, realized Elias was dead, and sprinted back down the hill and across the field to tell his wife’s family what had happened. Mary was washing dishes at the kitchen sink and saw him running back and “knew by how he was running something was terribly wrong”. Elias was taking the tractor to the top of the hill known as “Sugar Bush”, which he owned, to check on a bull that he had not checked on for a couple days due to bad weather.
